Channing Tatum says he's 'traumatized' and can't watch Marvel superhero movies.

"Once 'Gambit' went away, I was so traumatized," he said, adding that he can't watch any Marvel movies now. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him," he said, noting that Gambit was the "coolest." The "Magic Mike" star was set to play X-Men character Gambit in his own movie in 2016, but after production delays, the movie never happened. Gambit's like, 'No, this s**t's just fly, bro! This s**t walked down the Paris runway last year.' (CNN)Channing Tatum says he is traumatized after his dreams of playing a Marvel superhero fell apart. When Disney merged with Fox in 2019, they decided to redesign the X-Men franchise "from the ground up," said Tatum, who was devastated. "The studio really didn't want us to direct it," Tatum told Variety. Tatum and his producing partner, Reid Carolin, were producing the movie and also wanted to direct, but the studio was against it. Miami's Little Haiti wasn't a target for developers.

But in working-class, immigrant neighborhoods like Little Haiti, year-to-year sea level rise gets lost in the day-to-day struggle, and most had no idea that they live a lofty three feet higher than the wealthy folks on Miami Beach. While some scientific models predict enough polar ice melt to bring at least 10 feet of sea level rise to South Florida by 2100, just a modest 12 inches would make 15% of Miami uninhabitable, and much of that beachside property is among America's most valuable. Miami Beach is spending millions elevating roads, upgrading pumps and changing building codes to allow residents to raise their mansions by five feet. But that fund is a relatively small $15 million, not enough to dent a housing crisis that grows with each heat wave and hurricane, in a city where over a quarter of residents live below the poverty level. "(Climate gentrification) is something that we are very closely monitoring," Miami Mayor Francis Suarez tells me. "Because this is

A record number of Americans quit their jobs in 2021.

Out of these so-called separations, 47.4 million were voluntary quits. Quits went up in nondurable good manufacturing. Meanwhile, older workers retired early either because they could or because age discrimination forced them out of the labor market. While millions of workers left jobs for cash incentives, better pay or better benefits, people also left the labor market to care for children or elderly relatives during the pandemic. The pandemic has forced a rethinking of how we work. Worker shortage continues For US companies, the labor shortage is still as real as it was in the summer. In line with that, the number of layoffs hit a new record low at 1.2 million in December, showing that the negative impact from the Omicron variant didn't fully hit the labor market at the end of last year. In total, 75.3 million workers were hired last year, while 68.9 million quit, were laid off or discharged. The number of workers quitting last month fell in health care and social assistance job

Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin still a 'presence' among Australia's Olympic snowboarding team following his death.

Ahead of Beijing 2022, Australia's snowboarding team has paid tribute to Pullin, saying he is "absolutely a presence amongst the team still." "A lot of what Chumpy stood for and what Chumpy was about -- and some of those lessons he was able to pass on to other athletes -- will be very much alive here in 2022 in Beijing and I think it will be helping the team. (CNN)Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin continues to affect Australia's Olympic snowboarding team 'in a positive way' following his death, according to former teammate Cam Bolton. "I was thinking about it this morning and I think that this team that we have here in Beijing for 2022 is still so heavily affected by Chumpy, but in a positive way." "Everyone has had so much positive interaction with Chumpy, so much advice, so much knowledge shared," Bolton added. "He obviously meant a lot to a whole lot of people and to the winter community in Australia as a whole," Bolton told r

4 of Boris Johnson's key aides quit, marking latest blow for the UK PM.

(CNN)Four top aides to Boris Johnson resigned Thursday, marking the latest setback for the British prime minister whose government has been embroiled in scandal in recent days. Johnson's head of policy, Munira Mirza, chief of staff Dan Rosenfield, principal private secretary Martin Reynolds, and communications director Jack Doyle all left their posts Thursday, just days after a damning investigation revealed that multiple parties took place at Downing Street while the rest of the United Kingdom was living under strict Covid-19 lockdown rules. The report, released Monday, uncovered multiple parties and a culture of excessive drinking at Downing Street. On Monday, Johnson alleged that Starmer, while serving as director of public prosecutions, failed to prosecute Britain's most notorious pedophile, Jimmy Saville. Starmer on Wednesday accused the prime minister of "parroting the conspiracy theories of violent fascists to try and score cheap political points." Mirza said

Canada's trucker protesters aren't who Americans might think.

The reality is the truckers live in a country that is among the most highly vaccinated in the industrialized world. Some 90% of Canadian truckers are vaccinated, and their umbrella association has disowned the protestors. The "Freedom Convoy" has come to this sleepy capital to protest a mandate that requires truckers entering the country to be vaccinated or comply with testing and quarantine requirements. Some, she found, distanced themselves from the more militant truckers who oppose vaccination outright, spread misinformation and traffic in hatred. If there has been no bloodshed it is perhaps because those with other opinions have stayed away (a counter-demonstration by pro-vaccination activists was canceled) and the authorities have stood by. In Quebec, the most aggressive jurisdiction on the pandemic, which threatened (but this week dropped) a plan to tax the unvaccinated, the provincial government is popular. Canadians have embraced restrictive measures -- wearing masks

New Zealand announces plans to reopen to the world

(CNN) — New Zealand has announced it will begin reopening to the world, signaling an end to nearly two years of tough border rules that have separated families and shut out almost all foreigners. The country banned almost all foreign travelers in March 2020, and requires incoming visitors to spend time in a state-run quarantine facility at their own cost. To deal with the limited quarantine places, New Zealand brought in a quarantine lottery system which allowed citizens to enter an online queue at designated times in the hopes of scoring spots. Ardern said the anguish of quarantine had been "heartbreaking." In October, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the country would begin to move away from a zero-Covid strategy toward living with the virus. The system has allowed New Zealand to keep Covid-19 numbers low, and just 53 Covid-19 deaths have been reported in the country, according to the country's Ministry of Health. "Covid as an illness hasn't touched many of

US carrier bolsters NATO to counter Russia as tensions reach fever pitch

USS Harry S Truman, Adriatic Sea (CNN)The smell of jet fuel fills the air as an F/A-18 Super Hornet prepares for take-off. And they're doing so unfazed by the circumstances of their presence in the Adriatic Sea as tensions between the US and Russia reach fever pitch. Jeannette Lazzaro, who flies the US Navy's E-2 Hawkeye -- an early warning aircraft that plays a key role in coordinating with NATO allies -- told CNN she's not concerned about rising tensions between the US and Russia. The Truman -- which carries 90 aircraft on board, including a fleet of F/A-18s -- was on its way to the Middle East in mid-December, but the Pentagon decided to keep it in Europe as tensions began to escalate. With the Truman near European shores, its jets can get to most of Eastern Europe in less than an hour, and its presence in the region gives NATO members like Bulgaria, Romania and Poland additional security guarantees. The Truman just wrapped a two-week-long exercise with NATO allies in t

Civilians reported dead after US conducts counterterrorism raid in Syria.

Washington (CNN)US Special Forces conducted a "successful" counterterrorism mission in northwest Syria Wednesday evening, the Pentagon said, but offered few other details. But witnesses and rescue workers told CNN that shelling and explosions preceded an airdrop of US forces shortly after midnight and targeted a house in the Syrian-Turkish border area of Atmeh, in the rebel enclave of Idlib. One witness in Atmeh, who asked not to be named for security reasons, said that machine gunfire erupted from at least three helicopters flying overhead, followed by an explosion some minutes later. The witness also said he heard what sounded like drone strikes, and said HTS forces were preventing civilians from entering the area. The witness said two of the three helicopters he saw landed an hour after the clashes began. "I saw from a distance that there were machine guns shooting back from the ground towards the helicopters." "Around 3:20 a.m., the helicopters left and I
